(“What I’m Smoking Tonight” are quick reviews of cigars that I’m smoking that night. A full review will appear later on.)

I’ve smoked quite a few Joya De Nicaragua Cabinetta’s over the past couple of years… it’s always been a good, tasty, satisfying smoke… but tonight I’m smoking a 1-year aged Cabinetta Serie #4 in honor and celebration of my good friend Jose Blanco

Jose, formerly a director of Dominican Republic based La Aurora Cigars, announced his retirement earlier this year… and while many of us would miss Jose, we knew he wouldn’t stay away for long… and right we were… Today Dr. Alejandro Martinez Cuenca, owner of Joya De Nicaragua, announced that Jose would be joining the company as Senior Vice President responsible for overall brand and blend development… He brings to JDN 29 years of marketing, public relations, and tobacco blending experience…

This past summer at the IPCPR trade show & convention in Las Vegas Jose gave a phenomenal seminar on wrapper, filler & tasting that educated those in attendance on how to recognize & taste cigars on a different level and teaching us how much flavor wrapper actually gives towards the overall taste of a cigar… it’s information that I will certainly be using for quite some time…

I have previously briefly reviewed the Cabinetta #4 on Facebook… it’s one of my favorite cigars and is on my “Top 10” cigars list here on the blog… The #4 is a robusto sporting 2 wrappers: a Nicaraguan Criollo that runs throughout the cigar and an Ecuadorian Shade overwrap that covers 2/3rds of the stick… The wrappers lend a very nice, sweet & slightly spicy nose and the cigar is beautifully constructed with very few veins and a firm consistency overall…

Once lit you’ll get plenty of mouth coating smoke with rich cocoa, Espresso, vanilla, mocha and brown sugar notes and a touch of spice, toffee & roasted nuts that adds to the complexity… retrohale provides sweet vanilla and coffee with a slight amount of spice… Ash is good & compact with a light grey tone and at least 2″ before cracking… It’s beautifully balanced and has a wonderful long finish that leaves your mouth happy (can you tell I really like this cigar?)…

I’ve recommended the JDN Cabinetta Serie to many who are looking for a medium smoke that they will enjoy and satisfy their palate – I often tell people that it’s like smoking a big chocolate pie… it’s especially wonderful when paired with an icy sweet tea or a cup of brewed cafe Americano… If you haven’t tried one yet make sure you do, I know you’ll enjoy it…

And to Jose – Congratulations my friend… I’m glad you are back in the “game”… I look forward to smoking some of the cigars you’ll be creating for JDN soon!…

      Thanks for posting your comment…

Yes, we’re still working on reviews… unfortunately we’ve had a few set-backs over the past couple of months, one was a family crisis that had to be taken care of (family comes first always) and the other is an upgrade to the theme & system we use here as recent WordPress upgrades aren’t playing nice with what we currently have set up… I have been doing some reviews in the background and those will show up on this site soon (plus I have quite a few reviews banked that we’ll be releasing)…

I appreciate your readership & patience… we have some cool & fun things coming up that I know you’ll enjoy!

Till the next time… Keep smoking my friend!…
